Tamil Nadu Unveils Draft Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) Framework Through 2032
May 14, 2026
The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has issued a landmark draft for the Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) framework, spanning from FY 2025-26 all the way to FY 2031-32. This comprehensive document serves as the financial and operational “rulebook” for the state’s power sector for nearly a decade. By moving away from short-term, unpredictable price hikes, Tamil Nadu is attempting to provide the industrial and renewable energy sectors with the long-term cost visibility they have been craving.
For renewable energy developers, the MYT framework is equally vital as it influences cross-subsidy surcharges and additional surcharges for open-access consumers. As Tamil Nadu continues to be a leader in both wind and solar, this 7-year roadmap is designed to prevent “tariff shocks” that could otherwise derail industrial growth. The draft is now open for public comment, marking a high-stakes period for industry stakeholders to shape the economic landscape of India’s most industrialized state.
