Brookfield to Invest Up to $600 Million in ACME’s Green Fuels Business

News Date September 17, 2026

Global alternative asset manager Brookfield is staging a major entry into South Asia’s clean-energy landscape, agreeing to invest up to $600 million in UK-based ACME Cleantech Ventures. Announced on September 17, 2026, the strategic transaction will be executed via Brookfield’s Global Transition Fund strategy, marking the firm’s maiden foray into the region’s burgeoning green-molecules sector.

The capital injection is engineered to supercharge ACME’s expansive project pipeline, which centers on the large-scale production of green ammonia, green methanol, and other low-carbon fuels designed to service both domestic and international markets.

While renewable electricity successfully replaces fossil fuels in conventional power grids, hard-to-abate sectors like heavy manufacturing, chemical refining, shipping, and fertilizer production require alternative pathways. Green hydrogen and its derivatives—specifically ammonia and methanol—bridge this gap by converting intermittent clean power into storable, transportable industrial fuels and chemical feedstocks.

According to Brookfield, institutional and industrial demand for green molecules is accelerating rapidly as corporations and governments race to meet strict emission-reduction targets while reinforcing energy security.

ACME Group already operates a commercial green ammonia plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan, and is actively developing another major facility in Duqm, Oman. Furthermore, the company is advancing fresh production plants in Odisha following a landmark green ammonia purchase agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

Industry reports indicate that the structured investment from Brookfield will directly bankroll four major developments:

  • The second phase of ACME’s flagship project in Oman

  • Two dedicated green-ammonia production units in Odisha

  • A new green-methanol facility in Odisha

The final equity valuation for the transaction is slated for completion by the end of 2026.

The partnership leans heavily on ACME’s robust web of long-term offtake agreements. The company has locked in strategic supply and collaboration partnerships with major global and domestic players, including Yara International, IHI Corporation, Mitsubishi Gas Chemicals, SECI, IFFCO, Paradeep Phosphates, Coromandel International, and Indorama India.

For Brookfield, the investment creates a powerful synergy. The asset manager already commands an expansive Indian renewable portfolio comprising approximately 50 GW of operational and pipeline wind and solar assets. By expanding into green molecules, Brookfield effectively chains its massive renewable generation capacity directly to industrial feedstock demand.

As India’s energy transition scales past standard wind and solar additions, the alliance between Brookfield and ACME underscores a pivotal shift: converting clean electricity into molecules to decarbonize the foundation of heavy global industry.
