Kolkata Metro Invites Bids for 5 MW Rooftop Solar Power Setup
January 8, 2026
The Ministry of Railways has issued a tender for the installation of a 5 megawatt rooftop solar power system at Noapara metro station and several other older buildings on the Kolkata Metro network, with interested companies required to submit their bids by February 11, 2026.
The project, valued at about ₹33.87 crore, seeks bidders to handle the design, engineering, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the solar systems, and also requires successful firms to carry out comprehensive maintenance for five years after commissioning. Companies responding to the tender must deposit an earnest money amount of ₹18 lakh when applying, and the same day will be used to open bid proposals. The solar systems are expected to include key equipment such as inverters, lightning protection and proper earthing arrangements, and bidders must commit to bi-weekly cleaning of the installed panels during the warranty period to ensure optimal performance.
Eligibility criteria for bidders specify experience in completing grid-connected solar projects of significant size over the past seven years, with various combinations of completed project value acceptable under the tender conditions. This initiative forms part of broader efforts by Indian rail authorities to increase the share of renewable energy in metro operations and reduce dependence on conventional electricity sources.
