India’s Solar Panel Making Capacity Under ALMM Hits 162 GW

New Delhi – India’s solar photovoltaic module manufacturing capacity listed under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) has risen sharply after the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) added more capacity in its latest update, taking the total to about 162 gigawatts (GW) nationwide. The recent inclusion of additional manufacturing capacity and new producers reflects continued policy support for strengthening domestic solar panel production.
In the February 2026 revision of the ALMM, the MNRE expanded the approved list by 17,268 megawatts (MW) of solar module capacity, with KRG Power Solar and Sun 2 Earth Solar among the new companies added. This brings the cumulative module capacity certified under ALMM — which determines which solar products are eligible for use in government-supported and other major solar projects — to 162,109 MW per year.
Along with these newly enlisted manufacturers, several existing companies such as Mundra Solar PV (Adani Solar), Emmvee Energy, Grew Energy, Pahal Solar, Premier Energies, ReNew Photovoltaics, RenewSys India, SAEL Solar, SUNBOND Energy, Sunify Solar, Surya International Enterprise, and Unique Sun Power increased their certified capacities, contributing significant additions to the list.
The ALMM framework has been periodically updated to include new models and manufacturers that meet quality and performance standards set by the ministry. In parallel, the MNRE has also revised the ALMM List-II for solar cells, bringing that total enlisted capacity to around 26 GW, further supporting domestic downstream solar manufacturing.
These updates come against the backdrop of broader efforts to bolster India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem, reduce reliance on imports, and ensure that modules used in large projects meet technical and performance standards. Policymakers have also proposed future mandates requiring locally made wafers to be part of the ALMM certification to strengthen the domestic value chain.
