India on Track for Record 50 GW of Solar Installations in 2026
India’s solar-energy sector is heading toward another major milestone.
According to recent analysis from Wood Mackenzie, India could install more than 50 GW of solar capacity in 2026, potentially surpassing the previous annual record of 49 GW set in 2025.
34 GW Added in Just Six Months
The pace of growth has been particularly strong in the first half of 2026.
India added approximately 34 GW DC of solar capacity between January and June 2026, representing a 38% increase compared with the first half of 2025.
A major factor behind this surge was the push by developers to commission projects before the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers-II (ALMM-II) requirements took effect.
