Green Energy Corridor and the significance of its third phase for India's renewable-energy transition.

The Green Energy Corridor (GEC) serves as the critical transmission backbone for India’s renewable-energy integration, linking renewable-rich regions with the national electricity grid. Designed as a dedicated infrastructure programme, GEC facilitates the evacuation of power from large-scale solar and wind projects and strengthens intra-state transmission networks.

As India rapidly expands its non-fossil fuel capacity toward its 2030 and 2035 targets, the third phase (GEC-III) holds immense significance. GEC-III plays a vital role in enabling large-scale renewable evacuation, supporting storage-backed grid flexibility, and ensuring generation-transmission synchronisation.

By addressing transmission bottlenecks, curtailment risks, and balancing volatile power demand, GEC-III provides the necessary resilient infrastructure to support a reliable, scalable, and fully integrated clean energy transition in India.
