Andhra Pradesh Orders Power Utilities to Provide 24×7 Electricity During Summer
February 11, 2026
Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand has instructed the state’s power companies to ensure continuous, reliable, 24×7 electricity supply for all consumers as the summer season approaches, officials said. He made the call during a high-level review meeting on the state’s power situation held at the Secretariat in Vijayawada, stressing the need for meticulous planning and enhanced grid readiness to meet rising demand.
Vijayanand highlighted that the state must prepare thoroughly to handle increasing power requirements in the coming months and directed officials to accelerate key power infrastructure projects, including the Polavaram Hydel Power Project, which is expected to add 960 MW of clean energy to the grid once fully operational. He noted that significant work on civil and electro-mechanical installations is underway, and major equipment has already been installed on site.
During the review, data on recent power demand trends were discussed, with officials reporting that daily electricity demand in February 2026 ranged between approximately 233 MU and 239 MU, underscoring the pressure on the grid. Vijayanand urged power generators and distributors to modernise thermal units, optimise coal linkages, and improve operational efficiency to support stable power delivery. He also asked the transmission company to complete critical network upgrades and ensure grid stability ahead of peak summer loads.
The Chief Secretary’s directive aims to strengthen supply reliability across domestic, industrial, and commercial sectors while maintaining quality and minimising outages. Enhanced coordination among state generation, transmission, and distribution agencies was underscored as essential for meeting consumer expectations throughout the hot season
