February 3, 2026
India and Norway have agreed to strengthen their partnership across multiple strategic areas—including renewable energy, trade, artificial intelligence and Arctic cooperation—during the 12th Foreign Office Consultations held in Oslo, officials said. The talks, co-chaired by India’s Secretary (West) Sibi George and Norway’s Secretary General Torgeir Larsen, reviewed the full range of bilateral ties and laid out plans to broaden collaboration in economic and technological fields.
The discussions covered an extensive agenda aimed at boosting cooperation not only in clean power and sustainable technologies but also in the blue and circular economies, education, science and technology, space and polar research, reflecting shared interests in innovation and sustainable development. Both sides exchanged views on regional and global matters of common concern and identified opportunities to expand trade and investment under frameworks such as the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), which is expected to drive deeper economic engagement between India and Norway.
During the consultations, representatives emphasized the importance of renewable energy cooperation as countries look to accelerate clean energy transitions and investment in green technologies. Strengthening ties in artificial intelligence was also highlighted, with both nations recognizing the transformative potential of AI across industries. In addition, strengthening cooperation on Arctic issues was underscored, reflecting Norway’s strategic expertise and India’s growing interest in polar research and sustainable development in high-latitude regions.
Officials from both countries also held focused meetings on economic ties following the implementation of TEPA, exploring ways to boost investment in green and blue technology sectors, which include sustainable energy, maritime and environmental solutions. This enhanced cooperation is seen as part of a broader effort to build resilient partnerships that support technological innovation, economic growth and climate action.
The consultations reaffirmed India’s view of Norway as a valued partner in the Nordic region, and both sides expressed commitment to leveraging this relationship to advance mutual interests in trade, technology and sustainable development in the years ahead.
