India Plans Alternative Power Sources to Meet Summer Electricity Demand

India is preparing to meet the expected surge in electricity demand during the upcoming summer months by relying on alternative energy sources and new generation capacity. Government officials say the country is unlikely to face a power shortage despite concerns over reduced output from gas-based power plants. The plan focuses on using a combination of coal, renewable energy, hydro power, and other available resources to ensure sufficient electricity supply during the peak demand period.

Electricity consumption typically rises sharply during summer due to higher use of cooling appliances such as air conditioners and fans. With temperatures already increasing across several parts of the country, power demand is expected to reach new highs.
