It has been found that due to recent research, commercial and industrial entities in India are increasingly interested in solar power because of its sustainability factors but also because of its potential to lower electricity costs. The escalating cost of power tariffs and fluctuating tariffs in India have kept power as a strategic risk for many production units and offices and have accordingly shifted them to solar solutions that provide potential means to cut down costs. Analysts at an energy conference in Nagpur said that rooftop solar power is still the simplest means for businesses to get started on solar power and that proper design and size are paramount to achieve optimal benefit. They said that because of varying engineering complexities and equipment selection, the cost of equally scaled rooftop solar installations differ considerably.

Industry players mentioned how high efficiency solar modules can assist firms in obtaining more power from their roofs, with newer structures available commercially that enable firms to tap into solar power without sizable upfront capital outlays, with cost savings beginning at once with power purchase agreements. Off-site clean power from open-access arrangements was another important alternative available to larger consumers who require more power than what their roofs can provide.

Changes that have come about in pricing structures, time-of-use tariffs, as well as solar energy banking, have made things complicated, but advances in load profiling and battery energy storage systems help companies align solar energy output with peak usage hours when costs are high. Batteries provide backup power as well as reduce the need for costly diesel-run power generation. “Waiting for a better price or for the policy to be clearer can delay the savings benefits that will be reaped only after the installation,” experts added. Solar energy solutions with storage and improved management systems have become an integral part of companies’ power strategies and can no longer be considered a niche project in the sustainability space.
