India’s Renewable Energy Sector Sees Strong Growth in February

News Date March 10, 2026

India’s renewable energy industry recorded major developments in February 2026, with rapid solar expansion, strong rooftop growth, and increasing attention to battery storage and domestic manufacturing. The sector continued its steady progress toward the country’s clean energy goals as new installations, policies, and market trends highlighted the growing role of renewable power in India’s electricity mix.

One of the key highlights was India’s record solar capacity addition in 2025. The country installed about 36.6 gigawatts (GW) of solar power during the year, a sharp increase of around 43% compared with the 25.6 GW installed in 2024. Analysts say this growth reflects improved policy support, faster project execution, and favorable market conditions that have encouraged investment in solar energy across the country.

Rooftop solar installations also grew rapidly. The segment added about 7.1 GW of capacity in 2025, more than doubling from 3.2 GW installed in the previous year. Residential consumers drove most of this growth, accounting for nearly 76% of all rooftop solar installations. Rooftop systems made up over 19% of total solar installations during the year, showing rising adoption among households and small businesses.

Another important trend in the renewable sector was the growing focus on battery energy storage systems. With increasing renewable power generation, storage projects are becoming crucial for balancing electricity supply and demand and supporting grid stability. Government programs and financial support, including viability gap funding, are helping accelerate the deployment of energy storage technologies.

Industry experts say these developments indicate that India’s renewable energy market is expanding quickly. Continued investments in solar power, rooftop installations, and energy storage are expected to strengthen the country’s transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy system in the coming years.
