India’s Solar Module Manufacturing List (ALMM) Jumps to Over 173 GW
March 3, 2026
India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has expanded its Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for solar modules, adding 11.035 GW of new capacity and pushing the total certified manufacturing capacity under the ALMM to 173.144 GW. This marks another major step in broadening the domestic solar production base, which supports government-mandated procurement from locally listed manufacturers for large solar projects.
Several new entrants contributed to the latest increase in listed capacity, including Startup Energy, Rajdeep Solar Energy, Army Solar Energy, Sahjanand Green Energy and Best Apartment, which together added over 3 GW of module output capacity on the ALMM. Meanwhile, established manufacturers such as Insolation Green Energy, Swelect Energy Systems, Vikram Solar, Websol Energy System and others expanded their certified capacities by significant amounts, collectively boosting India’s ability to supply solar panels that meet the government’s quality and domestic production criteria.
The ongoing growth in ALMM-listed solar manufacturing capacity reflects sustained policy support for at-home production amid India’s ambitious renewable energy targets. The MNRE has also revised the ALMM List-II for solar cells — a related mandate that will require modules to use domestically listed cells — and continues planning further integration of the solar value chain, including potential future inclusion of wafer manufacturing under the ALMM regime.
This expansion of certified module capacity plays an important role in India’s renewable energy strategy by helping ensure that major solar projects can source locally compliant equipment, reducing reliance on imports while fostering manufacturing competitiveness and industry scale-up.
