Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney Hold High-Level Talks in New Delhi

Leaders of India and Canada met in New Delhi for delegation-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation across trade, energy, critical minerals and other key areas.The discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, held at Hyderabad House, focused on deepening economic ties, expanding strategic partnerships and reviewing the progress of the India-Canada Strategic Partnership. Both sides agreed to accelerate negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) expected to boost trade toward a target of about $50 billion by 2030.
During the talks, the two governments signed a long-term uranium supply agreement and exchanged several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on cooperation in areas including critical minerals, renewable energy and cultural exchange. India also announced the establishment of an India-Canada Defence Dialogue to enhance joint work on defence industries, maritime security and military exchanges.
Both leaders emphasised their commitment to expanding collaboration in clean energy, technology, education and people-to-people ties, and noted this visit as part of a broader effort to normalise and reinvigorate relations after a period of diplomatic strain. The Canadian Prime Minister’s visit also included participation in the India-Canada CEOs Forum and discussions on expanding commercial and investment engagement between business communities of both countries.
