NEEPCO and GRIDCO Join Hands to Boost Renewable Energy Projects in Odisha
February 28, 2026
North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) and Grid Corporation of Odisha Limited (GRIDCO) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop renewable energy projects in Odisha. The agreement, formalised on February 28, 2026, marks a significant step toward expanding clean energy capacity in the state through coordinated planning, investment, and execution of solar, wind, hybrid, and other renewable projects.
Under the partnership, the two public sector entities will work together to identify suitable sites, conduct resource assessments, and carry out detailed feasibility studies to ensure that proposed projects are technically sound and financially viable. The collaboration will also focus on integrating upcoming renewable energy capacity into the existing grid infrastructure, ensuring reliability and stability as the share of clean power increases. Both organisations aim to combine their technical expertise and institutional strengths to accelerate project development and reduce implementation timelines.
The MoU provides for the creation of a joint working framework that will oversee project conceptualisation, financing models, regulatory clearances, and tendering processes. The partners will engage with central and state authorities to secure necessary approvals and align projects with national renewable energy targets. In addition, they plan to explore innovative financing mechanisms and public-private partnerships to mobilise investment and enhance project bankability.
Officials indicated that the collaboration is expected to strengthen Odisha’s renewable energy ecosystem by improving coordination between generation and power procurement agencies. GRIDCO, as the state’s power procurement and trading utility, will play a key role in ensuring power offtake arrangements, while NEEPCO will contribute its experience in large-scale power project development and execution.
The initiative also emphasises environmental compliance and sustainable development practices. The two organisations plan to incorporate community engagement measures, environmental impact assessments, and responsible land-use planning into the project development process. By addressing these aspects early, the partnership aims to ensure long-term sustainability and social acceptance of renewable installations.
With India accelerating its clean energy transition, the NEEPCO-GRIDCO agreement is seen as a strategic move to harness Odisha’s renewable potential more effectively. The collaboration is expected to support the state’s efforts to diversify its energy mix, enhance energy security, and contribute to national climate commitments through increased deployment of renewable power projects in the coming years.
