New Green Energy Portal Enables Small Customers to Purchase Green Electricity
November 11, 2025
India’s power ministry has rolled out a new Green Energy Open Access Portal, which allows electricity consumers with a sanctioned supply capacity of 100 kW and higher to receive green energy supplies directly from clean energy plants. The step is expected to accelerate the use of green energy.
The portal, launched by Union Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R.K. Singh, enables the eligible consumer to apply online for supply of renewable power like solar or wind power from any generation plant set by the consumer himself or by a developer. The portal eliminates the need for prior procedures and reduces the minimum load requirement from 1,000 kW to 100 kW. The approval for access should now be obtained within 15 days of application through the portal, provided the technical parameters are met.
As per reports, the green open access website has provided a transparent system for applications for open access or connectivity requests, ensuring the integration of renewable energy resources into the Indian power market. The users can access the website greenopenaccess.in.
The initiative is a part of the larger efforts made under the rules of Electricity (Promoting Renewable Energy Through Green Energy Open Access) Rules, 2022. The aforementioned rules were notified by the Ministry of Power back in June 2022. The initiative looks to promote the production, purchase, and consumption of renewable energy. The ease in entry and the online process is bound to see the rise of small consumers and the usage of renewable energy.
