NTPC Green Energy and Uttar Pradesh Government Agree to Build Clean Power Projects

News Date January 28, 2026

NTPC Green Energy Limited (a renewable energy arm of state-owned NTPC) has signed an agreement with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to jointly develop large-scale clean energy and green hydrogen projects in the state. The memorandum of understanding was formalised on January 22, 2026, during the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, and aims to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s renewable energy infrastructure and support its transition to low-carbon power.

Under the pact, NGEL and the state government will work together to plan, finance and implement major renewable power initiatives, including solar, wind and green hydrogen facilities. The agreement was signed by senior officials — Vijay Kiran Anand, CEO of Invest UP & UPSIDA, and DMR Panda, Executive Director of NTPC Green Energy — with the presence of Uttar Pradesh’s Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna and other dignitaries.

The collaboration is expected to accelerate Uttar Pradesh’s adoption of clean power technologies and help expand the production of green hydrogen, a key fuel for reducing carbon emissions in industry and transport. Officials noted the agreement aligns with India’s broader goals of decarbonisation and supporting sustainable economic growth through renewable energy deployment.

By focusing on both renewable electricity generation and green hydrogen, the initiative seeks to attract investment and create jobs while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. This partnership builds on NTPC’s growing role in India’s energy transition and the state’s push to expand its clean energy capacity in the coming years.
