NTPC Renewable Energy Starts Commercial Power Supply of 165 MW from Khavda-II Solar Plant in Gujarat
February 21, 2026
NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, a subsidiary of state-owned NTPC Green Energy Limited, has begun commercial electricity supply from a 165 megawatt segment of the 1,200 MW Khavda-II solar photovoltaic project in Gujarat, the company said in a regulatory filing on Friday. This new capacity started commercial operations from 00:00 hours on February 20, 2026 and increases NTPC Green Energy’s total installed capacity to 8,992.68 MW.
In the filing, NTPC Green Energy noted that this 165 MW addition is part of the second phase of the large-scale Khavda-II project located in the Kutch district of Gujarat. The firm said the newly commissioned segment joins earlier operational units at the project and contributes to the company’s broader goal of expanding renewable energy output across India.
With the commercialization of this tranche, NTPC Renewable Energy is advancing its renewable portfolio under the NTPC Group, which has been steadily increasing solar and other clean energy capacities. The commissioning of the 165 MW segment underscores NTPC’s efforts in scaling up clean power generation in line with national renewable energy targets. The Khavda-II solar project itself is part of a larger push to harness solar energy in the region, feeding power into the grid and supporting India’s transition to more sustainable energy sources.
