World Energy Day 2026 Shows India’s Solar-Led Growth in Clean Power

News Date February 16, 2026

New Delhi – On World Energy Day 2026, experts and industry leaders highlighted how solar energy is driving India’s fast-growing shift toward renewable power and helping the country move closer to its climate and net-zero goals. The event underscored the importance of strong policy support, investment, and reliable grid integration to sustain renewable energy expansion.

Speakers noted that solar power has become the backbone of India’s renewable transformation, forming the largest share of new clean energy capacity and helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels. This growth is supported by government incentives, domestic manufacturing initiatives, and increased deployment of technologies such as energy storage systems to make power delivery more reliable during peak and off-peak hours.

In addition to solar, discussions stressed the need for advanced storage solutions and grid improvements to ensure that variable renewable sources like solar and wind can be effectively integrated into the national grid. Local manufacturing of solar modules and cells was highlighted as another key element for long-term sustainability and energy security, reducing reliance on imports and strengthening India’s clean energy supply chain.

The observance of World Energy Day also reaffirmed India’s ambition to lead in renewable adoption while balancing energy demand growth, economic development, and climate commitments through strategic planning and continued investment.
