NTPC Group Total Hits 89 GW as New 90 MW Solar Segment Goes Live in Khavda
April 25, 2026
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) has reached another major milestone in its renewable energy journey, officially commissioning a 90 MW solar capacity segment at the Khavda-II Solar PV Project in Gujarat. This new block, which became commercially operational at midnight on April 25, 2026, represents the seventh phase of the massive 1,200 MW mega-project. With this addition, the total installed capacity of the NTPC Green Energy group has climbed to 10,453.90 MW, underscoring the company’s aggressive push to decarbonize India’s power grid. The project was developed through NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NREL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NGEL. Located in the solar-rich region of Khavda, Gujarat—one of the largest renewable energy hubs in the world—this installation is part of a broader group strategy to reach 60 GW of renewable capacity by 2032. The parent entity, NTPC Limited, now manages a staggering total installed capacity of 89,705 MW across its diverse energy portfolio, ranging from high-efficiency thermal units to cutting-edge green infrastructure.
This latest commissioning in Gujarat follows closely on the heels of another successful launch in Rajasthan, where NGEL recently operationalized an 87.5 MW solar block. By systematically activating these phased segments, NTPC is demonstrating its ability to execute complex, large-scale projects that provide stable, carbon-free power to meet India’s rising industrial and domestic demand. As the Khavda-II project continues to scale toward its full 1.2 GW capacity, it stands as a cornerstone of the nation’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions.
