Maharashtra Witnesses Sharp Surge in Solar Open-Access Installations in Q2 2025

News Date September 24, 2025

Mumbai, The state of Maharashtra, for the second quarter of 2025, leads in India’s open-access solar market, with approximately 30% of the additions in new open-access solar capacity throughout the country.

According to the sources, installations in the state increased 161% QoQ and 240% YoY. Most of the new capacity – about 59% – was delivered by three key developers. The surge is primarily driven by commercial and industrial buyers, especially players from the chemicals, FMCG, and textile sectors, looking to cut electricity costs amidst rising grid tariffs.

India had added a total of 2.6 GW of solar open-access capacity in Q2 2025, which is an increase of 143% over Q1 and 60.1% more compared to the same period last year.Of Maharashtra’s newly added capacity, most of it came from standalone solar projects. Analysts say the momentum is attributed to the strong demand from cost-sensitive enterprises and favourable regulatory and market conditions that make open-access solar increasingly attractive over traditional grid power.
