Big Battery Storage Plant Tender Launched in Kerala to Enhance the Power Distribution Network

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID) has solicited bids for developing a 250 MW / 500 MWh large battery energy storage system in the state of Kerala on behalf of the Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd (KSEBL). The purpose is to facilitate the stabilization of the power grid in the state as well as enable the use of more renewable energy sources. The tender has been made available through the Tariff-Based Global Competitive Bidding method.
The proposed project, named BESS-01 (KSEBL) with the reference number CC/T/W-MISC/DOM/A01/25/16371, entails the full development of a standalone Battery Energy Storage System with a capacity of 250 megawatts and 500 megawatt-hours. The development, consequently, involves the provision of the design, supply, installation, and subsequent testing and commissioning of the proposed Battery Energy Storage System.
Powergrid issued the tender notice on their e-tender website and the documents were available from 12th December 2025. They also specified the last date for submission of the tenders to be on or before 19th December 2025. This tender has no earnest money deposit and will have the financial value to be MEP through competitive bids.
The BESS project that is planned is also expected to optimize the ability of the state of Kerala in meeting the peak power requirements, and the availability of renewable energy sources can be stored during off-peak periods and supplied during peak periods.
