Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has announced a major plan to invest ₹6,675 crore to build a 10 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing facility at Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, marking the largest plant of its kind in the country. The project aims to boost domestic production of key materials used in solar cells, modules, and semiconductor chips, and is expected to contribute to the employment as it can generate 1000 job opportunities

The greenfield facility will be set up at the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone on land allocated by the state government, with 120 acres for the initial phase and 80 acres reserved for future expansion. The State Investment Promotion Board led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has cleared the project, which awaits final cabinet approval. A dedicated 200 MW captive renewable energy plant will also supply clean power to the manufacturing unit, reinforcing the state’s commitment to sustainable industrial growth.

This investment aligns with India’s broader policy to strengthen local manufacturing of critical solar components and lessen import dependence, especially from China. The Nellore region is increasingly becoming a hub for solar manufacturing, attracting multiple industry players. Andhra Pradesh officials have welcomed the project as a significant endorsement of the state’s industrial infrastructure and green energy focus.
