NTPC Green Energy and GAIL to Form Equal Partnership for Renewable Energy Projects
January 16, 2026
NTPC Green Energy Ltd and GAIL (India) Ltd have agreed to create a new company to develop renewable energy projects, with both partners holding equal 50:50 ownership, the companies said. The board of NTPC Green Energy approved the joint venture agreement at a meeting on January 15, 2026, and the formal setting up of the new entity is now awaiting required approvals from the Ministry of Power, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) and other regulatory authorities.
Under this agreement, the proposed joint venture company will focus on building and managing renewable energy assets such as solar, wind and related clean energy infrastructure across India, combining NTPC Green Energy’s project development experience with GAIL’s resources and expanding presence in the clean energy sector.
NTPC Green Energy is the green energy arm of NTPC Limited, India’s largest power producer, and is expected to use this partnership to support NTPC’s target of reaching 60 GW of renewable capacity by financial year 2032. The final incorporation of the joint venture will proceed once all statutory approvals are secured, after which further details on specific project plans and timelines are expected to be disclosed.
