Stability and Choice: Arunachal Pradesh Maintains Tariffs While Introducing Time-of-Day and Green Credits

News Date April 8, 2026

The Arunachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APSERC) has decided to keep the state’s electricity landscape steady for the coming year. In its latest order, the commission has retained the existing retail tariff structure for the 2026-27 financial year, offering a sense of predictability for households, businesses, and industries alike. While the base rates remain unchanged, the new order introduces innovative mechanisms designed to encourage energy efficiency and support the state’s transition to a greener grid.

For industrial and commercial consumers, the status quo provides a stable environment for financial planning. Industrial HT rates will continue at ₹4.50/kWh (11 kV) and scale down to ₹4/kWh for 132 kV connections, while commercial LT rates are held at ₹5.65/kWh. Domestic households will also see no change, with the energy charge remaining at ₹4.40/kWh for standard connections and a subsidized rate of ₹3/kWh for KJP and BPL consumers.

The most significant updates come in the form of flexible consumption models. The commission has introduced a Time-of-Day (ToD) tariff for all consumers (except agriculture) with a demand above 10 kW. This “smart” pricing rewards users with a 20% discount during solar hours (08:00–16:00) while applying a 20% premium during peak evening hours (17:00–21:00). Additionally, for those looking to lower their carbon footprint, a new Green Tariff has been launched. By paying an additional ₹0.50/kWh, consumers can now opt to source their power from renewable energy in 25% increments—allowing businesses and homes to align their energy use with their environmental values.
