RPSG Arm to Acquire ReNew’s 1.4 GW Solar Portfolio for ₹4,859 Crore

News Date August 11, 2026

The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG) is set to significantly expand its renewable energy presence through its clean energy arm Purvah Green Power, which has agreed to acquire a 1.4 GWp operational solar portfolio from ReNew Solar Power for an enterprise value of ₹4,859 crore.

The transaction involves six operating solar projects and represents a major expansion of RPSG’s clean energy portfolio. The acquisition is being undertaken as part of the group’s broader strategy to build a 10 GW renewable energy portfolio.

The acquisition will give Purvah Green Power immediate access to a large portfolio of operating solar assets rather than relying solely on developing new projects. This can help strengthen its renewable generation base while accelerating its expansion in India’s rapidly growing clean energy market.

The transaction also highlights the increasing activity in India’s renewable energy asset market, where established developers and large corporate groups are increasingly using acquisitions to scale their portfolios.

The portfolio being acquired has approximately 1.4 GWp of operational solar capacity. The enterprise value of ₹4,859 crore makes the transaction one of the notable renewable energy asset deals in India’s current market.

For ReNew, the sale is part of its broader portfolio optimisation strategy. ReNew has continued to expand its overall renewable energy platform while also undertaking asset sales. As of March 2026, the company reported an operating portfolio of approximately 12.6 GW, while its broader portfolio stood at around 20 GW, including battery storage assets.

The acquisition supports RPSG’s ambition to establish a much larger renewable energy platform. By adding operating solar assets, Purvah Green Power can increase its clean electricity generation footprint and build scale in the Indian renewable energy sector.

The move also reflects a broader trend among major Indian business groups, which are increasing their investments in solar, wind, storage and other clean energy technologies as electricity demand and the need for low-carbon power continue to grow.

The transaction comes at a time when India’s renewable energy sector is witnessing increased consolidation and investment. Large-scale renewable portfolios are attracting interest from infrastructure investors, utilities and diversified corporate groups seeking long-term exposure to clean power generation.

The acquisition of ReNew’s solar assets by Purvah Green Power underscores the growing value of operational renewable energy projects, which can provide established generation capacity and long-term electricity revenues.

As India works toward its clean energy and non-fossil capacity targets, such transactions are expected to remain an important route for companies seeking to rapidly scale their renewable portfolios.
