Tata Power Begins Construction of 800 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid Project in Andhra Pradesh
July 31, 2026
Tata Power has commenced construction of an 800 MW hybrid renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh, marking another major step in the company’s expansion of clean power generation. The project will combine 400 MW of wind capacity with 400 MW of solar capacity.
The hybrid project is designed to bring together solar and wind generation within a single renewable energy complex. Combining the two resources can help improve generation profiles and support more consistent renewable power availability compared with relying on a single intermittent source.
The project comprises 400 MW of solar power and 400 MW of wind power, creating an integrated renewable energy portfolio in Andhra Pradesh. The start of construction, or SOD (start of development/construction), signals the transition of the project from development into the execution phase.
Andhra Pradesh’s strong solar and wind resources make the state an important location for large-scale renewable energy development. Hybrid projects can also help developers optimise land, transmission connectivity and renewable generation assets.
The combination of solar and wind generation is increasingly important as India expands its renewable electricity capacity. Solar generation is generally strongest during daylight hours, while wind generation can follow a different production profile depending on local conditions.
Integrating the two technologies can therefore improve the overall utilisation of renewable infrastructure and support more efficient grid integration.
The project adds to India’s growing pipeline of large-scale renewable energy developments. As electricity demand increases and the country continues to expand clean generation, hybrid projects are expected to play an increasingly important role alongside battery storage, pumped hydro and transmission infrastructure.
Tata Power’s latest project demonstrates the broader shift toward integrated renewable energy systems, combining multiple generation technologies to support a more flexible and resilient power sector.
